KIDDOS 5-11yrs

With our kiddos we will begin to introduce all the fundamental CrossFit movements with form being of the greatest importance. The sessions will still be focused around fun, and technique drills disguised as games.

PRE-TEENS 9-13yrs

Our pre-teens classes will still have a strong focus on ‘fitness fun’ in which where we disguise drilling movements into games – but also with the introduction of some more progressive movement mechanic work.

We will begin to see the introduction of dumbbells and the barbell, some more complex gymnastics movements and a little dedicated strength work.

TEENS 12-17yrs

Our teens will begin at a foundation level – focusing on good mechanics for all CrossFit movements and skills we see in adult CrossFit classes. We ensure they are performed consistently well before introducing any intensity. The progression in the teens sessions will be monitored closely and adjusted accordingly to continue their development into adulthood.

The is for ages 3-5 years. This class will be based almost exclusively on ‘playing games’to disguise physical activity and the introduction of CrossFit body weight movements and lift movement patterns. We will use no load during these classes – only items like bean bags, balls, cones, ropes for marking purposes and cue cards.

Our Vision

Our goal for kids and teens is NOT to create the best CrossFit athlete. We want to use CrossFit to help get (or keep) the kids/teens conditioned to help them excel at the other activities they might participate in through recreational, travel teams or school. We encourage our kids and teens to try new things and have fun!
We want to give these children the skills and opportunities that WE wish we had.
We want our CrossFit Kids to embody all the things we believe that a true ‘CrossFitter’ embodies: confidence, fitness, camaraderie, compassion, perspective, integrity and ambition.

OUR Key Goals when teaching YOUR Children:

  • Hone Life skills – loyalty and honour.
  • Teach an awareness of ‘self’
  • Build a community – complete equality.
  • Teach them to have compassion through having no judgement and an acceptance of all children, regardless of ability, ethnicity, gender, ability or upbringing.

All children are to be cherished. Hard work is something to be cherished.

CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children. Further, the needs of second graders and high-school varsity wrestlers differ by degree and not kind; the program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status one can find in a class full of kids. CrossFit Kids is designed to be minimalist; it is inexpensive and often requires little or no equipment, allowing a wide array of socioeconomic groups an opportunity to be physically fit and physically active throughout their lives.

CrossFit Colchester Kids is a method for teaching CrossFit to children ages 3-18. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.
